Our Vision
Our Mission
Background
The Hargeisa School of Economics was established in 2005, and the first batch of economics students graduated in 2009; the total number of graduates from this school is 14 batches. Our world and its way of conducting business practices has changed drastically we’re now more than ever connected, which is incredible great yet very risky, today we’re much more prone to market failures than ever so the school of economics prepare its students to catch up with these facts and in response strive to improve the living standards of their respective communities.
The school now offers two undergraduate programs namely as;
- Bachelor of Economics
- Bachelor of Islamic banking and finance
The school added the new program of Islamic banking and finance in 2017, and the first batch of this program graduated in 2021. The new program is designed to provide the students a full knowledge and understanding of the concepts and operating principles in banking and finance which the extended application of Islamic principles. The school attracts students with strong mathematical background and have the passion of critical thinking and independent analysis of the real-world economic issues.
This 4-year bachelor degree program in economics aims to provide students with a solid understanding of economic theories, applied economics and statistical techniques. The Economics curriculum has been updated and enhanced several times to provide the graduates with a competitive edge, allowing them to fit into the current dynamics of the job market. The program is updated toward more empirical, analysis, and policy skills. With our degree program in economics, we focus on the practice of economics and policy-making to help students understand issues such as trade, labor markets, education, migration, poverty, development and health.
This program best suits for students who have strong mathematical skills or enjoy mathematics as it involves quantitative studies and analyzing and interpreting data to find solutions for the commercial world. Starting with the study of the principles of economics at microeconomic and macroeconomic courses to advanced economics analysis, the students learn how to analyse real-world issues and events. Also this program helps you to study different disciplines alongside your Economics degree such as project management, leadership, international relations, and many more.

This 4-year Bachelor of Islamic Banking program has been commenced recently and designed to help students understand the fundamentals and methodology of Islamic banking and financial system. It helps the students to comprehensively understanding of the key concepts and operating principles in Islamic banking as compared with conventional banking. This degree is a specialized area of financial studies that gives students an understanding of the banking and financial issues.
This degree program is intended to produce well rounded professionals in finance who are imbued with Islamic values and ethics. It ensures students develop a good grounding in quantitative skills, accounting, economics and finance. Islamic perspectives are integrated in all subjects. The curriculum of the program is developed to not only educate students the theories and practices of Islamic banking and finance but also develop their communication skills, so that they become effective communicators, able to work in teams and be leaders. The program sharpens the students’ analytical and critical thinking abilities. It aims to instill in students the desire for long-life learning, keep up with current knowledge using contemporary technology and resources.
