A grand ceremony held at the IPCS Hall of the University of Hargeisa marked the transition of leadership to the new management. The event was attended by numerous guests, including ministers, heads of private companies, parliamentarians, the university board, administrative staff, and faculty members. The gathering included prayers, advice, and encouragement for the new administration.
The chairman of the university board Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire opened the meeting by highlighting that the new leadership emerged from a competitive selection process aimed at identifying the best candidates to lead the university. He urged the new administration to work collaboratively and focus on improving various departments within the university. Additionally, the Minister of Education and the Manager of the Somaliland Civil Aviation Authority praised the board’s recent efforts in advancing the university. They encouraged the new administration to strengthen the areas where the university excels and to elevate those that require improvement. They emphasized the importance of fostering a close and effective relationship between government departments and the University of Hargeisa.
On another note, representatives from the private sector, including Mohamoud Gadhyare, chairman of Telesom, Abdirahim Mohamed, chairman of Somcable, Abdiqani Harir from Daarasalaam Bank, and Mahad Cabdi from Horn Petroleum, all encouraged the new administration to ensure that graduates possess the skills demanded by the job market. They commended the university as a whole, noting its strong educational system and the high quality of its students compared to others in the country.
Finally, the newly elected administration delivered speeches expressing gratitude and reaffirming their commitment to achieving significant advancements for the university. They all extended thanks to the outgoing administration. The new Vice President for development and Administration Dr. Abdirashid Ismail Mohamed pledged to work towards substantial improvements in all educational infrastructure. The new Vice President for Academic and research Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiye emphasized that the university will not focus solely on teaching and learning but will also prioritize conducting extensive research to address the challenges facing the country and the region. The new chairman of the university highlighted the need for a quality administration, competent lecturers, and high-caliber students to achieve substantial progress in the University. He stated that they will foster unity in management, ensure transparency in financial processes, and develop a comprehensive plan for the advancement of the University and the community very soon.
