Role Purpose

The Dean of Business, Economics & Statistics is responsible for providing academic leadership, strategic planning, and management within the College of Business, Economics & Statistics. The Dean ensures the delivery of high-quality education, promotes research, and oversees the overall functioning of the college. Additionally, the Dean plays a critical role in fostering a conducive academic environment and supports the professional development of academic staff.

Duties and responsibilities

▪         Provide vision and leadership to the College of Business and Economics in alignment with the university’s strategic goals.

▪         Foster a culture of academic excellence and innovation within the college.

▪         Ensure the alignment of the college’s goals with the broader strategic objectives of the university.

▪         Oversee the development, review, and delivery of the academic curriculum, ensuring that programs are relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with industry trends.

▪         Ensure the proper assigning of courses and allocate teaching loads based on academic staff expertise and departmental needs.

▪         Supervise the academic and administrative staff to maintain high teaching standards and ensure the quality of instruction.

▪         Manage the teaching workload and allocate resources to ensure effective teaching and learning.

▪         Encourage faculty and students to engage in research activities and support initiatives for collaboration with national and international research organizations.

▪         Work with the Research and Community Services Directorate to support and promote research initiatives.

▪         Ensure the integration of research into teaching and learning processes.

▪         Oversee the recruitment, retention, and professional development of academic staff in the college.

▪         Manage the day-to-day operations of the College of Business, Economics & Statistics, including budgeting, resource allocation, and facilities management.

▪         Promote academic staff involvement in continuing education and professional development activities.

▪         Coordinate faculty evaluations and oversee the promotion process for academic staff in line with university policies.

▪         Manage the day-to-day operations of the College, including budgeting, resource allocation, and facilities management.

▪         Ensure that the college’s activities are financially sustainable and in line with the university’s budgetary priorities.

▪         Develop and maintain systems for tracking the performance of students and academic staff.

▪         Ensure the academic success and welfare of students within the college.

▪         Act as a liaison between students and university management to address academic and student concerns.

▪         Encourage student participation in academic, extracurricular, and community service activities.

▪         Represent the College in external relations and build partnerships with industry, governmental, and non-governmental organizations.

▪         Collaborate with the university’s Public Relations and Fundraising Advisor to mobilize resources for the college’s growth.

▪         Ensure that all academic programs within the college comply with university policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.

▪         Oversee the implementation of quality assurance processes within the college and ensure continuous improvement.

▪         Oversee the college’s budget, ensuring effective resource utilization and financial accountability.

▪         Assist in the preparation of the college’s budget and ensure that it aligns with institutional priorities.

▪         Manage the allocation of resources for teaching, research, and other academic activities within the college.

▪         Provide regular updates on the college’s performance, challenges, and achievements to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

▪         Do any other task assigned by the Supervisor

 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

▪          Doctorate in Business administration, Economics or a related field is required.

▪          Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic leadership, preferably in higher education.

▪          Strong record of teaching, research, and academic administration.

▪          Knowledge of accreditation processes and quality assurance standards.

▪          Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

▪          Ability to manage budgets, resources, and staff in a complex academic environment.

Key Competencies

▪          Ability to lead and inspire faculty, staff, and students towards achieving academic excellence.

▪          Strategic thinker with the ability to innovate and advance the college’s academic programs.

▪          Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
