Role Purpose:

The Deputy Dean for Economics & Islamic Banking assists the Dean of Business, Economics & Statistics in managing and overseeing academic and administrative activities related to the Economics and Islamic Banking programs. The role emphasizes fostering academic excellence, supporting faculty and students, and ensuring that programs align with national and international standards.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

▪         Assist the Dean in planning, developing, and reviewing curricula for Economics and Islamic Banking programs.

▪         Ensure the implementation of academic programs that meet the evolving needs of the industry and adhere to accreditation standards.

▪         Coordinate teaching schedules, faculty assignments, and resource allocation for the respective programs.

▪         Support faculty of Economics and Islamic Banking through mentoring and professional development initiatives.

▪         Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and performance evaluation of faculty members in the respective programs.

▪         Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty to promote innovative teaching and research.

▪         Oversee student enrollment, academic progression, and performance in Economics and Islamic Banking programs.

▪         Provide academic guidance and counseling to students and address their concerns.

▪         Promote student participation in research, internships, and community engagement activities.

▪         Support faculty and students in conducting research related to Economics and Islamic Banking.

▪         Facilitate collaboration with the Directorate of Research, Publications, and Community Services to enhance research output.

▪         Promote the dissemination of research findings through seminars, workshops, and publications.

▪         Ensure that academic programs comply with the university’s policies and quality assurance standards.

▪         Coordinate the preparation of accreditation reports and oversee internal audits for the programs.

▪         Implement continuous improvement initiatives for the Economics and Islamic Banking programs.

▪         Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, financial institutions, and government agencies to strengthen the programs.

▪         Represent the programs in university-wide and external meetings or events as required.

▪         Assist in mobilizing resources to support the growth and development of the programs.

▪         Collaborate with the Dean to prepare budgets and allocate resources for the programs.

▪         Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, reporting, and coordinating program activities.

▪         Act on behalf of the Dean for Economics and Islamic Banking matters as delegated.

▪         Perform other responsibilities assigned by the Dean to support the College of Business and Economics.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

■        Master’s degree (PhD is preferred) in Economics, Islamic Banking, or a related field.

■        At least 5 years of experience in academia with a focus on Economics or Islamic Banking. Industry experience is an extra advantage.

■        Proven track record in teaching, research, and academic administration.

■        Knowledge of accreditation processes and quality assurance standards in higher education.

■        Strong academic and research background in Islamic finances and practices.

■        Capacity to align program goals with institutional and industry priorities.

■        Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

■        Analytical and innovative approach to addressing academic and administrative challenges.
