The University of Hargeisa, established in 1998 and officially launched in 2000, began with just two faculties and approximately 150 students. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Somaliland’s premier institutions of higher education. With leadership from ten different presidents, each contributing to its steady development, the university now enrolls over 6,500 students in more than 34 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate programs. Its academic structure comprises 7 colleges and 17 faculties, offering diverse programs designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for leadership and professional success.

With a proud alumni network exceeding 15,000 graduates, the University of Hargeisa has played a vital role in shaping the nation’s future. Its graduates serve as presidents, vice presidents, ministers, governors, parliamentarians, and leaders in NGOs, actively contributing to Somaliland’s political, economic, and social progress. Spanning two campuses and covering an area of roughly 2.5 square kilometers, the university remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality education, foster innovation, and nurture the next generation of national and regional leaders.
