Office of UoH-Research and Community Service Directorate (DRCS) invites research proposals from interested UoH faculty (academic staff) to conduct independent research that is unique in nature, cost-effective and scalable and should address everyday problems in Somaliland. This program is designed to focus on applied research in order to serve as a bridge between the government, industry, and academia with the end target of sustainable policy formulation.
The research proposals should address one or more of the following thematic areas:
» Major health problems, Determinants of Health and Quality of health care
» Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Related Issues
» Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety
» Veterinary Public Health
» Animal health, Production, and Productivity; Socio-economic and Institutional Issues
» Water, Energy, Environment Management and Development Issues
» Infomation, Communication and Construction Technology
» Crop Production and Protection
» Livelihoods and Development
» Business, Finance, Marketing, Hospitality and Resource Management
» Socio-cultural and Socio-Economic Development Issues
» Legal System, Judiciary, Human Rights and the role of Shariah
» Quality of Education and Management
Proposal format
- Title, Name of Principle investigator (PI) and Co-investigators, contact information, college
- Background/ introduction ( not more than a page)
- Research questions/ objectives ( 3-5 bullet items)
- Methodology
- Expected outcomes
- Detailed milestones for each month
- Technical reference/ bibliography
- Budget
- College approval and signature

Review process
Each proposal will be reviewed and applicants vetted through an open defense according to UoH-research policy
Agreement and signing of the contract
Once the proposal is selected there shall be a signing of project contract between researchers and the Office of the UOH Directorate for Research and Community Services using the appropriate format.
Reporting and progress
Research funding shall be in two phases. The researcher shall be given half of the research funds allocated for the running and expendable costs in the first phase to operate the SET (survey, experiment, and trial). The remaining fund shall be released based on the proper conduct of the SET halfway between the duration of the project, as indicated in the proposal when the progress report is approved by the Office of the UOH Directorate for Research and Community Services.
The office of UoH-DRCS shall arrange periodical monitoring and evaluations (M&E) of the project to know that the research is properly handled as planned in the research protocol. These M&Es are also an opportunity for the UoH-DRCS Research Committee to provide appropriate technical assistance to the project if needed.
