The UK MP Sir Gavin Williamson has paid a courtesy call to the University of Hargeisa. The MP, a vocal advocate for Somaliland recognition, has been in the country for the past few days. The president of the University, Dr. Mohamoud Yusuf Muse, along with other university officials, received the MP in his office and had fruitful discussions on how the University and other academic institutions in the country can play an important role in Somaliland’s quest for recognition. The MP toured several places at the University, including the main library, the IPCS, and the University’s journalism studio, which was funded by the British office in Somaliland.
Sir Williamson, who is also a member of the all-party parliamentary group in the UK that supports the case for Somaliland’s international recognition, gave a short speech with Q&A in the OCVP hall. He explained his efforts and how he is optimistic about succeeding in the UK Parliament.
