The University of Hargeisa started operation in the year 2000. It is the largest and leading chartered public university in the Republic of Somaliland. The main objectives established at the university include teaching, research, and community outreach services. The Legal Clinic, Human Rights Unit which is under the umbrella of the College of Law University of Hargeisa, was established in 2002 by the UNDP and today is the leading institution that provides, university community outreach services, especially legal aid services, GBV protection and prevention, Child and community-based protection services to the Forcibly displaced persons and host community who live within the ambit of Somaliland jurisdiction.
Legal Clinic became a Partner for UNHCR in 2006. Since that period Legal Clinic has worked with UNHCR as a partner. This makes Legal Clinic c, Human Rights Unit one of the oldest local partners of the UNHCR Somaliland office today. During that period, the Legal Clinic has been committed to community-driven protection throughout the regions of Somaliland.
Thus, the University of Hargeisa Legal Clinic, Human Rights Unit is looking for suitable applicants to support its UNHCR partner with refugee and asylum seeker registration verification.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office Hargeisa, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
Responsibility
Interpreted languages required: Afaan Oromoo/ Oromiffa, Amharic, Tigrinya, Arabic, Somali
- Oral interpretation: from interpreted language to English and vice-versa, during confidential interviews with asylum seekers and refugees.
- Written translation: translation of interpreted language (correspondence, identity and educational documents etc.) into written English within set deadlines.
- Compile and update technical glossaries and terminologies in interpreted language and its dialects, as and when requested by the RSD officer.
- The incumbent may be asked to support FU Berbera and other offices in Somaliland as required, for both translation and interpretation-related matters.
- Perform other duties as required.
Authority
- Refer cases to other workstations during the verification exercise as per the workflow.
Essential & Desirable Minimum Requirements
- Excellent command of English and the interpreted language.
- Ability to learn and adapt.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to take detailed hand-written notes during the RSD profiling interviews.
- Respect for confidentiality and integrity for all tasks undertaken by the incumbent.
- Respect in dealing with persons of concern.
- Completion of secondary school education.
- Possess IT/ computer skills (for remote interviewing purposes).
- Zero addiction to alcohol and narcotic substances and a good role model in the community.
- Previous interpreting or translating experience is an advantage.
- Previous experience with the UN/ UNHCR or an INGO/ CSO is an advantage.

Accommodation/Feeding
Selected candidates are expected to work 6 days per week and 8 hours a day and to follow the UNHCR code of conduct. They will also be responsible for their accommodation and food.
