A grand ceremony attended by numerous dignitaries was held at the University of Hargeisa to officially launch the HAB Consortium— a network uniting the national universities of Hargeisa, Amoud, and Burao. The consortium, which has been in development for some time, was formally inaugurated at the University of Hargeisa, where the presidents of the three universities signed copies of the agreement.

Distinguished guests in attendance included:

• Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Duhul Yusuf

• Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Prof. Saleeban Dirir Abdi

• Chairman of the University of Hargeisa Board, Dr. Saad Ali Shire

• President of the University of Hargeisa, Prof. Saleeban Ahmed Guleed

• Presidential Economic Advisor, Dr. Abdirahman Beileh

• Representatives of independent institutions partnering with universities

• Private sector companies

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Education and Science highlighted the importance of university collaboration in advancing education and research. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Sulub, President of the University of Hargeisa and newly elected Chair of the HAB Consortium, welcomed the guests and elaborated on the consortium’s goals and its role in enhancing higher education in Somaliland.

Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril (President of Amoud University) and Prof. Ibrahim Osman Ismail (President of Burao University) also spoke on the significance of the consortium and how it will fill a critical gap in the country’s higher education system.

Several other guests expressed their joy and support for the establishment of this consortium, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among major national universities.

In his closing remarks, the Minister of Presidency affirmed the government’s support for the HAB Consortium and emphasized the ongoing plans to further strengthen higher education in Somaliland.

The event concluded with the presidents of Hargeisa, Amoud, and Burao Universities signing the HAB Consortium agreement.
