Hargeisa University Participates in the MSME Development Conference

A team representing Hargeisa University participated in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Conference in Somaliland, held on April 29–30, 2025. The conference, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Somaliland, served as an important platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences on boosting the country’s business sector.

The Hargeisa University delegation was led by the First Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research, Dr. Fu’ad Obsiye, and included key members such as the deputy Dean for the Faculty of Statistics and Data Science, Mr. Mustafe Hassan, and the deputy Dean for the Faculty of Economics, Mr. Zakariye Eid.

During the conference, the Hargeisa University team presented an in-depth research report titled “Review of Somaliland’s National Policy on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) (2019).” The report, which was well-received, critically analyzed the national policy, highlighting its strengths and identifying areas needing improvement or further development.

Finally, the report provided practical recommendations on how to refine and implement the national policy for MSME development—a key driver of Somaliland’s economic growth.

Hargeisa University’s participation in this conference reaffirms its commitment to playing an active role in the nation’s progress, particularly in research and community service.
