About University
of Hargeisa
The University of Hargeisa was founded in 1998 and officially began operations in 2000. Initially established with two faculties and just 150 students, the university has grown into one of Somaliland’s leading institutions of higher learning.
Over the years, 10 different presidents have led the university, each contributing to its growth and success. The university now serves over 6,500 students across more than 34 undergraduate programs and 20 postgraduate programs. With 7 colleges and 17 faculties, the University of Hargeisa offers a wide array of academic disciplines that prepare students for leadership roles across various sectors.
The university has produced more than 15,000 graduates, many of whom have gone on to become influential leaders in Somaliland, holding positions such as presidents, vice presidents, ministers, governors, parliamentarians, and leaders in non-governmental organizations. These alumni continue to contribute to the nation’s political, social, and economic development.
Today, the university spans across two campuses covering an area of around 2.5 km². The University of Hargeisa remains committed to academic excellence, fostering innovation, and shaping the future leaders of Somaliland.
