Background
The College of Education & Behavioral Sciences is one of the foundational academic units at the University of Hargeisa, committed to advancing quality education, literacy, and lifelong learning across Somaliland. It is home to two faculties:
Faculty of Education
Streams: Education and English Language & Literature
This faculty is dedicated to producing qualified educators, language specialists, and academic leaders. Its programs equip students with deep knowledge in educational theory and practice, classroom management, curriculum development, and English language proficiency. The faculty plays a critical role in preparing the next generation of teachers and educational reformers who can meet the evolving needs of schools and learning institutions.
Faculty of Distance & Continuing Education
This faculty serves as the University’s hub for flexible and inclusive education. It delivers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs online, allowing access to higher education for working professionals, adult learners, and those in remote or underserved areas. Through a blend of digital tools, academic support, and a learner-centered approach, the faculty enables students to balance study with work and life commitments while advancing their careers and knowledge.

The Faculty of Education is dedicated to preparing the next generation of educators and academic professionals who can shape the future of education in Somaliland. With two academic streams—Education and English Language & Literature, the faculty offers comprehensive 4-year bachelor’s programs that blend theory with practice to produce highly skilled, reflective, and ethical teachers.
The Education stream equips students with in-depth knowledge of teaching methodologies, curriculum development, educational psychology, classroom management, and instructional leadership. It also includes teaching practicum placements in schools to ensure students gain real-world experience.
The English Language & Literature stream focuses on developing advanced proficiency in English communication, literary analysis, linguistics, and teaching English as a second language. It prepares graduates to work as English teachers, translators, editors, and researchers.
