Background

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Hargeisa is dedicated to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals equipped with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to meet the growing healthcare needs of Somaliland and the surrounding region. With an emphasis on innovation, clinical excellence, and community engagement, the College aims to foster a new generation of healthcare practitioners who are capable of addressing local and global health challenges.

The College consists of two major faculties:

  1. Faculty of Medicine and Surgery
    The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery offers a comprehensive program designed to train future doctors capable of providing high-quality medical care. The 6-year curriculum prepares students in a wide range of medical disciplines, including basic medical sciences, clinical skills, diagnostic techniques, surgery, and medical ethics. Graduates are prepared to serve as doctors in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community health programs.

  2. Faculty of Health Sciences
    The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a diverse range of health-related programs aimed at addressing the various needs of healthcare systems. It includes several specialized streams, each contributing to the healthcare sector in different ways:

    • Nursing

    • Midwifery

    • Public Health

    • Nutrition and Food Science

    • Pharmacy

    • Medical Laboratory

    • Optometry

    • Public Health
