The University of Hargeisa held a launching ceremony of a fundraising campaign for the building of a new Library. The ceremony occurred on the University campus and many important guests attended. The Director of the University Library provided brief information about the current situation of the library. He pointed out that the number of readers at the library is now increasing and the library needs to be improved. He told that there is a good number of books at the library and the total number of books including the soft copies is more 150 thousand. He mentioned that the University takes part in the improvement of the high school libraries in Hargeisa city and the number of books contributed by the University Library is more than 8,500 thousand books.
Mohamed Sulub, Director of Corporate Communications at the University presented the University profile to the participants. He mentioned that the students in the university are now around 7,000 in number, and the Library can only cover 200 at once. He told that the University decided to build this Library which will cost around $900,000 with the help of its alumni, the government, and business people. Sahra-kiin and Guled Dafac, prominent Alumni of the University spoke at the launching ceremony and encouraged the students and the Alumni to take part in this campaign. The president of the University, Dr. Mohamoud Yousuf Mouse also spoke at the event and stated that the University has done many improvements in recent years. The University succeeded to finance and build the current Administration building, and another building which covers 18 classes and 1 office. He said ‘’Today, we are going to build a much-needed University library that can meet the needs of the students and staff, to build this kind of Library costs money that the University cannot finance alone, and we are requesting everyone including the Alumni to take a big part in the contribution and make this dream come true’’. He also emphasized the good cooperation between the mayor, Hon. Soltelco and the University. He thanked the mayor for his close relations with the University.
Other government officials including the Director Generals of the Ministries of Foreign Investment and the International Cooperation, Telecommunications and technology, and Vice Minister of Ministry of Finance Development spoke at the event and all called the Alumni, the government, and the Business sector to take part in this contribution. The Mayor of Hargeisa City Hon. Soltelco, who is also the chairman of Hargeisa’s local government spoke concluded the event. He told at the event that the local government of Hargeisa city is contributing $200,000. He also promised that if they are needed again, they are ready to pay more to help the University build this Library.
The University is requesting all the Alumni, the students, the staff, the Government, and the business sector to take part in this campaign and help the University build this Library. The University will soon share with you the different bank accounts for the Contribution.
