Formal legal education in Somaliland had to wait until the establishment of law Faculty in 2002. The important challenges of the inception of legal education in Somaliland include such concerns as to who should be taught law, at what level should law be taught, who should teach law and what laws should be taught. The college of Law is one of oldest faculties of the University and other Faculties of Law in Somaliland. The Faculty of Law offers three cycles of legal education: a four-year bachelor’s program (LLB), a two-years of joint master’s degree program (LLM). The College of Law aims to provide its students with the mastery of individual legal areas as well as the overall structure of Somaliland legal system, and to equip them with the methods of legal analysis and reasoning enabling them to tackle practical legal problems. It also strives to foster their broader intellectual development, critical thinking, reflecting and reassessing the fundamental values of the legal system.
