The University of Hargeisa Board of Trustees is the governing body of the University. The board is a seven-member body, appointed every four years by the president of Somaliland, who, in other terms, is the first chancellor of the University. The Board, as a collective body, holds the authority and responsibility to ensure the fulfillment of a University's mission and strategic goals. They are also responsible for the fiscal health of the University. The Board of Trustees’ governing role is not only limited to the selection of the president and his vice presidents, but also includes the approval of the University’s policies. The authority of the Board is written in the University charter.
