Background
The College of Social Sciences & Humanities at the University of Hargeisa plays a vital role in shaping well-informed, critically minded, and socially responsible citizens. The College is dedicated to exploring and addressing societal issues through academic excellence, research, and practical engagement. It brings together diverse disciplines that focus on understanding human behavior, communication, governance, and the social fabric of communities.
Established to meet the growing need for professionals who understand the complexities of society, media, governance, and social welfare, the College currently comprises three faculties:
Faculty of Social Work – Focused on preparing professionals to support vulnerable populations and strengthen social systems.
Faculty of Journalism and Mass Media – Dedicated to training journalists and media professionals who are ethical, well-informed, and capable of shaping public opinion responsibly.
Faculty of Public Administration – Offers education in governance, public policy, and administrative processes, aiming to produce effective civil servants and policy makers.
The College continues to evolve with the changing demands of society and offers both theoretical foundations and practical experiences to help students become change agents in their respective fields.

The Faculty of Social Work is committed to preparing students to become compassionate, skilled, and ethical professionals who address the needs of individuals, families, and communities. The program focuses on developing practical skills in counseling, case management, community development, and social justice advocacy. Students gain hands-on experience through field placements and community engagement initiatives that prepare them for work in NGOs, government agencies, healthcare, education, and humanitarian organizations.

The Faculty of Journalism and Mass Media equips students with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to excel in today’s fast-paced and evolving media landscape. The program emphasizes responsible reporting, multimedia storytelling, ethics in journalism, and the role of media in shaping public discourse. With a focus on both traditional and digital media platforms, students are trained to become credible journalists, media analysts, and communication professionals.

The Faculty of Public Administration focuses on developing future leaders, policy makers, and administrators who can effectively manage public institutions and contribute to good governance. The curriculum covers public policy, organizational management, budgeting, governance, and administrative law. Students are trained to work in government, international organizations, and non-profit sectors with a strong foundation in transparency, leadership, and strategic planning.
Graduates of the Faculty of Public Administration will be able to:
