The College of Business, Economics and Statistics (BEST) at the University of Hargeisa successfully organized a two-day College-wise Orientation Programme for newly admitted students for the 2026–2027 academic year. The programme brought together university leadership, academic staff, industry representatives, alumni, and fresh students to introduce them to university life, academic expectations, available learning opportunities, and future career pathways.
The orientation sessions were conducted over two days, with activities organized for students enrolled in the College’s three faculties: the Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Statistics and Data Science, and Faculty of Economics and Islamic Banking and Finance. This arrangement allowed students from different academic programmes to receive relevant information about their respective fields of study, faculty structures, academic requirements, and professional development opportunities.
The programme was attended by senior university officials, including Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Sulub, President of the University of Hargeisa; Dr. Khalid Ahmed Abdi, Vice President for Research, Innovation and Partnerships; and Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiye, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
During the orientation sessions, the university leaders warmly welcomed the newly admitted students and congratulated them on beginning an important stage of their academic journeys. They shared valuable experiences, insights, and advice, encouraging students to approach university education with commitment, discipline, curiosity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
The university leadership also reaffirmed the University of Hargeisa’s continued commitment to delivering quality higher education, strengthening academic standards, enhancing teaching and learning experiences, and continuously improving academic programmes and student services. Students were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities available throughout their studies, including research activities, practical learning, professional networking, and extracurricular engagement.
The Dean of the College of Business, Economics and Statistics, together with the Deputy Deans of the respective faculties, senior lecturers, and other academic staff, introduced students to the College’s academic environment and the expectations associated with their chosen programmes.
Faculty representatives provided guidance on academic progression, learning responsibilities, assessment requirements, professional conduct, and the importance of developing both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies. The sessions also created opportunities for newly admitted students to become familiar with their academic departments, lecturers, and fellow students.
A significant component of the two-day programme was the participation of industry experts and alumni, who shared their professional experiences and offered practical guidance on career development and workplace expectations.
Representatives from banking institutions and electricity companies participated in the orientation sessions, sharing their professional experiences and highlighting the importance of acquiring relevant knowledge, technical competencies, communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and professional ethics. Their contributions helped students understand the relationship between academic studies and the evolving demands of the labour market.
Alumni also shared insights from their academic and professional journeys, encouraging fresh students to remain focused on their goals, actively participate in university activities, and begin preparing for their future careers from the early stages of their studies.
The participation of industry representatives and graduates further demonstrated the importance of maintaining strong connections between higher education institutions and the professional sector. Such engagement provides students with valuable exposure to real-world experiences and a clearer understanding of the opportunities and challenges that await them after graduation.
Throughout the two-day orientation programme, students received valuable information designed to support their transition into university life. The sessions emphasized academic excellence, responsible learning, personal development, professional readiness, and the importance of making effective use of the University’s academic resources and support services.
The programme also provided an opportunity to strengthen communication and engagement between students, academic staff, university management, and industry stakeholders, establishing a positive foundation for the students’ upcoming academic journey.
Through this initiative, the College of Business, Economics and Statistics reaffirmed its commitment to providing a supportive, engaging, and career-oriented learning environment across its three faculties.
The two-day College-wise Orientation Programme forms part of the University of Hargeisa’s broader orientation activities for newly admitted students, reflecting the institution’s continued efforts to ensure that students begin their academic journeys with the necessary information, confidence, motivation, and guidance.
The University of Hargeisa extends a warm welcome to all newly admitted students of the College of Business, Economics and Statistics and wishes them a successful, productive, and rewarding academic journey.
