The Faculty of Statistics and Data Science, under the College of Business, Economics and Statistics at the University of Hargeisa, in collaboration with the Somaliland Information Management Center for Land and Water (IMC), successfully participated in a four-day training program on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data. The training was held at the IMC office in Hargeisa.

The program aimed to strengthen studentsโ€™ theoretical understanding and practical skills in GIS, with a focus on spatial data handling, mapping techniques, and basic GIS analysis. These competencies are essential for evidence-based decision-making and the effective application of geospatial data in research and development planning.

Throughout the training, participants actively engaged in hands-on exercises and interactive sessions, enhancing their capacity to analyze and visualize spatial information for academic and professional purposes. The initiative contributes to building local expertise in geospatial technologies and supports sustainable, data-driven development in Somaliland.

Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Essa, representing the Faculty Management, expressed sincere appreciation to IMC for organizing the training and for its continued collaboration with the University of Hargeisa. He highlighted the importance of such partnerships in equipping students with practical skills that align with current labor market and research demands.

The training reflects the ongoing commitment of the University of Hargeisa and IMC to academic excellence, capacity building, and the advancement of applied data science and geospatial studies.
