The University of Hargeisa, through its National Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Resilience (NICER), in collaboration with the College of Agriculture, Livestock, and Environment Sciences, commemorated Somaliland’s National Tree Planting Day in a significant and impactful manner. The event focused on raising public awareness about environmental protection and the vital role trees play in sustaining life.

This national day holds special importance as it promotes community awareness on environmental conservation while reinforcing the critical role of trees in combating land degradation and supporting sustainable development. Throughout the event, awareness sessions were conducted on environmental care and the protection of natural resources.

The ceremony was attended by the leadership of the University of Hargeisa, faculty members, students, and distinguished guests, all of whom actively participated in the tree planting activities, demonstrating a shared sense of responsibility and commitment to environmental protection.

At the conclusion of the event, 200 trees were planted on the university campus, contributing to both environmental beautification and ecological improvement. The event was officially closed by Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiye, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who encouraged the community, especially the youth, to take an active role in protecting the environment and building a sustainable green future.
