The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland, in collaboration with the University of Hargeisa, has officially inaugurated the Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs of Somaliland, coinciding with the start of the first cohort of students who immediately began their education. This new institute is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals involved in or interested in the fields of diplomacy and foreign affairs of the country. It is open to the entire community, especially anyone interested in studying diplomacy.
The opening event was attended by ministry staff, who form the first group to benefit from the institute. The ceremony featured valuable and appreciative speeches delivered by various officials in attendance.
The Director of the Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs of Somaliland, Dr. Madar, stated that the opening of this institute is a strategic and important step towards building a high-quality diplomatic capacity. He emphasized that the programs offered will focus on negotiation skills, foreign policy research, and understanding international protocols. He underscored that the institute will produce qualified and knowledgeable individuals who can professionally and effectively negotiate Somalilandโs recognition on the global stage, representing the name and interests of the nation at the highest level.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Abdirahman, expressed that the ministry aims for the instituteโs graduates to engage internationally in negotiating Somalilandโs recognition, possessing various professional levels tailored to the needs of the countryโs foreign policy. He also extended his gratitude to the University of Hargeisa for its cooperation and visible support in implementing the institute, which he described as a catalyst for tangible achievements.
The Vice President of Academic and Research at the University of Hargeisa, Dr. Fuโad Abdi Obsiiye, highlighted the universityโs role in fully supporting the countryโs educational programs and the establishment of this institute. He stated that the institute will be a center of both academic and practical learning, where officials, students, and anyone interested in diplomacy will gain in-depth knowledge of modern diplomacy.
Finally, the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced the opening of the Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs of Somaliland, and the planned courses and educational programs began immediately. This institute will be a crucial place for enhancing the knowledge of the community and developing the countryโs diplomatic skills, contributing to raising Somalilandโs profile and role internationally.
