Public Lecture: Caught in the Crosscurrents: Somaliland and the Red Sea in a Multipolar World

A public lecture organized by the University of Hargeisaโ€™s Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies brought together academics, students, and practitioners to explore the evolving geopolitical dynamics of Somaliland and the Red Sea region. The event was warmly opened by the Director of the Institute, Dr. Hassan Ahmed Abdi, who welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of such platforms in fostering informed discussion. The lecture was officially inaugurated by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiiye, who also introduced and welcomed the keynote speaker, Cawaale Ibrahim Shirwac.

During the lecture, Cawaale Ibrahim Shirwac shared in-depth insights on the shifting global order and its impact on the Horn of Africa, particularly Somalilandโ€™s strategic relevance in the Red Sea corridor.
