The University of Hargeisa Top Management held a meeting with Dr. Martin, a honeybee expert, and Iqbal Abdirisak, a student who recently completed a student exchange program and spent one semester in the Czech Republic.

The University of Hargeisa Top Management held a meeting with Dr. Martin, a honeybee expert, and Iqbal Abdirisak, a student who recently completed a student exchange program and spent one semester in the Czech Republic.

It has been a privilege to the University of Hargeisa to welcome and meet with Dr. Martin (Honeybee expert from the Czech Republic University of Life Sciences) as part of Erasmus+ Mobility bilateral collaboration program. Dr. Martin and the University of Hargeisa, college of agriculture, veterinary medicine and environmental science, have been paying various field visits to the surrounding honeybee farms by interacting with the local beekeepers and sharing modern beekeeping mechanisms. Very rich indigenous knowledge and experience on beekeeping system from the local communities have been observed by the experts and the common challenges and opportunities of the bee farms have been identified.

Dr. Abdirashid Ismail Mohamed, Vice president for administration and Finance accompanied by Dr.Fuad Abdi Obsie, Vice president for academic and research have emphasized the importance of honeybee production sector in Somaliland which requires encouragement to sustain livelihood being diversified among the drought-prone rural areas of the country. Both Vice presidents have also mentioned the urgent need for the establishment of sophisticated honeybee laboratory at UoH which is to be used for the diagnosis of bee diseases, honey quality, trainings and certification. Dr.Abdurazak Tahir Awale, Dean of the above-mention college, has explained in-depth the overall tremendous field work that has been done for the three days among the beekeepers in the vicinities of Hargeisa.

University top management has also given appreciations to Iqbal Abdirisak Ali, a senior agriculture student, who has recently come back from Czech Republic University of LifeSciences after accomplishment of the Erasmus+ scholarship program. Her strong commitment and devotion on gaining knowledge and skills from CZU LifeSciences has been given thanks by the UoH top management.
