The University of Hargeisa has initiated discussions with the Somaliland National Youth Organization (SONYO Umbrella) to explore strategic areas of collaboration aimed at expanding opportunities for young people across Somaliland. A delegation comprising representatives from the College of Business, Economics and Statistics, Ignite Career Hub, and the Partnership Office, led by Dean Dr. Fekadu Y. Maru, visited SONYO and held productive discussions with the organization’s leadership.
The meeting focused on potential areas of cooperation, including youth entrepreneurship and innovation, student internships and career placement opportunities, joint research and policy development, capacity-building initiatives, knowledge exchange programs, policy dialogues, and community outreach activities. Both institutions emphasized the importance of strengthening links between academia and youth-focused organizations to better support the aspirations of Somalilandโs young generation.
The University of Hargeisa and SONYO reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a strong and sustainable partnership that creates greater opportunities for youth, promotes innovation and leadership, and contributes to Somalilandโs long-term social and economic development.
