Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office Hargeisa, the incumbent will be deployed in the profiling desks as part of the workflow for the enhanced verification – (hereafter referred to as “verification exercise”) to conduct profiling interview of refugees and asylum seekers in the areas under SO Hargeisa coverage. The overall objective of the profiling interviews during the verification exercise will be to provide reliable and agreed upon disaggregated estimates of the refugee ad asylum seeker population in Somaliland as well as a comprehensive profile of their situation with regards to social and economic needs, enjoyment of rights and displacement-related needs or vulnerabilities.

Essential & Desirable Minimum requirements

  • 3 years relevant work experience with a high school diploma or 2 years relevant work experience with a bachelor’s or equivalent degree, preferably in Law, refugee protection, human rights, or international humanitarian law.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Excellent relevant language skills, including excellent drafting skills.
  • Experience working with the UN/INGOs is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
  • Good knowledge of UNHCR proGres database is an added advantage.
  • The ability to work effectively under stress and pressure.
  • Age, gender, and diversity (AGD) awareness and demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Knowledge of international refugee law and human rights and ability to apply the relevant legal principles.

Accommodation/Feeding

Selected candidates are expected to work 6 days per week and 8 hours a day and to follow the UNHCR code of conduct. They will also be responsible for their accommodation and food.
