The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, under the College of Engineering, Computing, and Information Technology at the University of Hargeisa, successfully conducted a practical training program on โR Programming Language and its Ecosystem for Data Scienceโ for senior computer science students. The initiative was designed to strengthen studentsโ practical skills in data science, analytics, and statistical computing while complementing their previous learning in data science with Python.
The training covered key components of the data science workflow, including data importation from multiple sources such as CSV files, APIs, databases, and web resources; data cleaning and transformation; exploratory data analysis; advanced data visualization; and introductory data modeling techniques. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises using real-world datasets, enabling them to apply theoretical concepts to practical data analysis challenges and develop industry-relevant competencies.
The program was officially opened by Eng. Awil Ahmed Mohamed, acting dean of the College of Engineering, Computing, and Information Technology, and facilitated by Lecturer Mohamed Abdilahi. Through this training, students gained valuable experience in conducting end-to-end data analysis, creating professional visualizations, and producing reproducible reports. The University of Hargeisa continues to invest in practical learning opportunities that equip graduates with the digital and analytical skills required in todayโs data-driven world.
