The President of the University of Hargeisa, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Sulub, welcomed a delegation of researchers from Israeli universities to his office. The delegation was led by Prof. Zohar Amar of Bar-Ilan University and included Dr. Yaron Serri of the Open University of Israel and Mr. Elron Zabatani of Ariel University. The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiye, also attended the meeting. The discussions focused on areas of mutual academic and research interest and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between the University of Hargeisa and the participating institutions.
During their visit, the researchers, in collaboration with the University of Hargeisa Biodiversity Center, conducted field research across different parts of Somaliland. Their work focused on ethnopharmacological knowledge, traditional medicinal practices and associated markets, as well as the distribution and diversity of incense-producing plants. The research combined market-based ethnopharmacological studies with field-based botanical surveys across ecologically and culturally diverse areas.
The visit represents an important step toward strengthening international research partnerships and expanding collaborative biodiversity research. It is expected to create further opportunities for joint research projects, academic exchange, knowledge sharing, and institutional cooperation between the University of Hargeisa and the participating universities.
