The University of Hargeisa participated in the high-level Erasmus Higher Education Conference held from 20th to 23rd in Tunis, Tunisia. Represented by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Fuad Obsiye, the university took part in this strategic forum under the theme โErasmus Aiming Higher: Mediterranean Bridges Across Africa and Europe for Shared Academic Pathways.โ Organized by the Italian National Erasmus Agency (INDIRE) in collaboration with Erasmus National Agencies from MedNet countries, the conference brought together key stakeholders in global higher education.
The event convened over 170 academic representatives from more than 70 higher education institutions across 27 countries. It served as a platform for two core activities: expanding international academic partnerships and engaging in forward-looking strategic discussions. Participants explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation, diversify partnerships across institutions, and develop new models of collaboration, while also reviewing the ongoing 2020-2027 Erasmus program and shaping priorities for the 2028-2034 cycle.
As one of only three East African universities invited alongside the University of Nairobi and Makerere University. UoH actively contributed to both tracks. On the partnership front, the university established new collaboration frameworks to support academic mobility and joint research with institutions from Tunisia, Mauritania, Algeria, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal, significantly broadening its global academic network.
In parallel, UoH engaged in strategic discussions on joint program proposals with universities from Niger, Senegal, North Macedonia, Serbia, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Slovenia, Malta, and Uganda. These dual engagements building concrete partnerships and advancing collaborative proposals underscore the University of Hargeisaโs commitment to internationalization and its role in fostering impactful academic exchange and research excellence.
