The University of Hargeisa, particularly the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Banking, has officially launched the Financial Literacy Awareness Campaign 2025, aimed at enhancing the communityโs financial understanding, strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and supporting local economic growth.
The launch event was attended by students from the faculty, who showed keen interest and active participation. This program is a direct community outreach initiative, where students will visit various markets to educate the public on financial management, savings, banking usage, and general financial literacy.
Details on the objectives, goals, and procedures of the campaign were provided by Mr. Khalid Abdinuur Cilmi โBarbaraawi,โ a faculty member, who emphasized that the program effectively connects studentsโ knowledge with the real needs of the community. He highlighted the role of students in raising financial awareness among the public, particularly market traders, to improve financial understanding that leads to sustainable economic development.
Additionally, Mr. Maxamed Jibriil from the Somaliland Banking Association delivered a speech at the event, praising the University of Hargeisaโs initiative and emphasizing the importance of collaboration between universities, banks, and the community to strengthen financial literacy and banking participation.
On his part, the Dean of the Faculty, Mr. Zakariye Eid Ismail, gave a brief speech encouraging students to fully benefit from this program, describing it as a way to enhance essential financial skills required in the modern labor market and business environment.
Finally, the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Hargeisa, Dr. Fuโad Abdi Obsiye, officially inaugurated the event, stating that the University prioritizes programs that link academic knowledge with community service while addressing the countryโs development needs.
