The University of Hargeisa had the honour of hosting a high-level delegation from the United Nations Coordination Office in Somaliland, led by Dr. Tedla M. Damte, Head of the UN Coordination Office. The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the President of the University of Hargeisa, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Sulub, to discuss areas of strategic cooperation and partnership.

During the meeting, the University of Hargeisa presented its institutional profile and current status, highlighting its central role in national development. Particular emphasis was placed on the Universityโ€™s engagement within the Triple Nexus framework, which integrates humanitarian action, development, and peacebuilding. The discussions underscored the Universityโ€™s contribution to Somalilandโ€™s development agenda through research, innovation, human capital development, and the production of policy-relevant, evidence-based knowledge.

The UN delegation expressed appreciation for the Universityโ€™s strategic vision and its growing role as a national knowledge hub. Several priority areas for collaboration were identified, including climate resilience and climate-related research, peacebuilding and conflict prevention, and youth empowerment and employability. Additional areas of discussion included innovation and artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and startup development, prevention of gender-based violence, public health financing, legal aid services, and strengthening linkages between academia and government institutions.

The visit marked an important step toward deepening collaboration between the University of Hargeisa and the United Nations system. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable peace, resilience, and inclusive development in Somaliland, through evidence-based approaches, innovation, and youth-centered initiatives.
