The University of Hargeisa Library organized a well-attended recognition ceremony to honor the students who demonstrated the highest level of library engagement during the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The event also awarded certificates to members who actively participated in the Library Reading Club throughout the year and officially welcomed 26 new members to the club, further strengthening the University’s commitment to promoting a culture of reading and effective utilization of library resources.
Opening the ceremony, Mr. Mustafe Hassan Dahir, Director of the University of Hargeisa Library, highlighted the importance of fostering a strong reading culture and emphasized the Library’s central role in advancing academic excellence and research. He explained that, for the first time, the Library had implemented a modern library management system capable of accurately recording and analyzing library usage, enabling the fair selection of the year’s most active readers. He also presented a brief report outlining recent developments in library services and shared statistical insights into library utilization across the University’s colleges and departments.
The Director further introduced several new services that will become available once the Library relocates to its new building. These include modern Digital Labs, dedicated reading spaces, access to e-books and electronic research journals (e-journals), research support and Information Literacy training, as well as expanded Reading Club activities designed to encourage lifelong reading habits among students.
The ceremony featured motivational remarks from several University officials, including Dr. Abdirashed Ismail Mohamed, Vice President for Administration and Development; Ahmed Yusuf Goolcade, Public Relations and Fundraising Manager at the university, and Ahmed Ismail Mohamed, Reading Club Coordinator. They emphasized that reading is the foundation of academic success and encouraged students to develop consistent reading habits, particularly throughout their university studies and research careers. They also urged students to minimize excessive use of social media and dedicate more time to reading, learning, and personal development.
Delivering the closing remarks, Dr. Fuad Cabdi Obsiiye, Vice President for Academic Affairs, commended the University Library for its continued efforts to strengthen reading and research culture across the institution. He congratulated all award recipients and the newly admitted Reading Club members, while encouraging all University of Hargeisa students to make full use of the Library’s services, describing the Library as one of the University’s most important pillars for academic achievement and intellectual growth.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of recognition and commemorative awards to the top readers, while Reading Club members received certificates acknowledging their participation and commitment.
