The Faculty of Civil Engineering under the College of Engineering at the University of Hargeisa successfully conducted a Practical Cost Estimation and Bill of Quantities (BoQ) Training, designed to strengthen students’ practical competencies in construction quantity surveying, cost estimation, and rate analysis. The hands-on training equipped participants with industry-relevant skills, including manual quantity take-off from engineering drawings, cost calculations using Microsoft Excel, preparation of professional Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and analysis of construction material, labour, and equipment costs.
The training was officially opened by Mr. Abdiqani Qorane, Coordinator of the Faculty of Engineering, who emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional engineering practice. In his remarks, he encouraged students to continuously develop practical and technical competencies that will prepare them for successful careers in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
The session was facilitated by Eng. Muhiyadin Ali, who guided participants through practical exercises based on real engineering projects and shared professional insights into quantity surveying and construction cost management. The training reflects the University of Hargeisa’s continued commitment to producing highly skilled engineering graduates by integrating practical, industry-oriented learning experiences into academic programmes.
