Faculty of Economics and Islamic Banking Launches Practical Workshop on Islamic Banking Operations and Professional Skills

The Faculty of Economics and Islamic Banking, under the College of Business, Economics, and Statistics at the University of Hargeisa, has officially launched a six-day workshop on Islamic Banking Operations and Professional Skills Development aimed at enhancing students’ practical knowledge and career readiness in the banking sector.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Khalid Ahmed Abdi, Vice President for Research, Innovation and Partnerships at the University of Hargeisa; Dr. Fekadu Y. Maru (PhD), Dean of the College of Business, Economics and Statistics; and Mr. Zakaria Eid, deputy dean of the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Banking. Representatives from the banking industry also participated, including Mr. Abdisalam, Director of the Somaliland Bankers Association, and Mr. Abdisalam Saeed from Dahabshiil Bank, who delivered the first training session.

The workshop is being supported by IBS Bank, Wadaag Bank, Dahabshiil Bank International, and Dara Salaam Bank. Throughout the six-day program, participating banks will deliver practical sessions covering key aspects of Islamic banking operations, financial services, and professional workplace skills.

This initiative reflects the University of Hargeisa’s commitment to strengthening university–industry collaboration and equipping students with the practical competencies, professional skills, and industry exposure needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving financial sector.
