Following the opening of the teachers’ training forum last week, the University of Hargeisa continued implementing the program by conducting an important session focused on “Teaching Methodology”. The session, delivered by Dr Guuleed Mohamed Yasin, is part of a month-long training designed for teachers from schools and madrasas in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
During the session, extensive discussions were held on the importance of using modern, student-centered teaching approaches, as opposed to traditional teacher-centered methods. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of classroom discussions, group work, and student engagement, all of which contribute to enhancing understanding and active participation in learning.
The session also highlighted the need for continuous assessment methods that go beyond examinations alone to comprehensively measure students’ progress. This training initiative, led by the University of Hargeisa in collaboration with the Ministry of Religion and Endowments, Somaliland, is expected to significantly strengthen the quality of education and improve teachers’ professional skills across the country.
