University of Hargeisa hosted an important public lecture titled “Geopolitical Competition in the Horn of Africa and Its Implications for Sovereignty and Development.” The session provided an in-depth analysis of how the Horn of Africa has become a strategic arena for both global and regional powers competing over natural resources, key maritime routes, and political influence.
The lecture was delivered by Ahmed Farah Iidle, Head of the National Institute for Development and Strategic Studies at the university. He explained how this geopolitical competition impacts regional stability, economic growth, and national sovereignty, while also highlighting the role of major powers seeking to expand their military, economic, and diplomatic presence.
The event was organized by the National Institute for Development and Strategic Studies and brought together students, researchers, and scholars interested in geopolitics and regional development. It forms part of the university’s broader efforts to enhance understanding of strategic issues and their role in shaping the region’s development and future.
