The University of Hargeisa hosted the SPI Regional Co-Creation Workshop, a regional workshop bringing together participants from six universities, held at the IDS Hall, University of Hargeisa, from 6–9 September 2026. The workshop focused on the launch of the SPI Special Cohort, the development of joint academic programs across partner universities, and the drafting of the SPI strategic plan.

The workshop brought together students from the University of Hargeisa and Beder University, particularly those studying Social Work, Public Health, and Nursing. Students and representatives from other Somali universities also participated, including SIMAD University. The workshop provided a valuable platform for students and participating institutions to exchange knowledge and experiences while strengthening academic collaboration and the development of joint programs.

The opening session was attended by Abdi Ahmed Digale, Dean of Education at Beder University; Dr. Fuad, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Hargeisa; Dr. Abdirashid, Vice President for Administration and Development at the University of Hargeisa; and Mr. Ahmed Gool-cade, Public Relations and Fundraising Manager. The officials emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-university collaboration, enhancing students’ skills and learning opportunities, and developing joint academic programs that respond to community needs and contribute to the advancement of higher education.
