The University of Hargeisa participated in the BIC Somali Innovation Forum, held under the theme “Hal-Abuur (Innovation): Cultivating Business Ideas that Improve Lives.” The forum was organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in collaboration with HarHub and other partner organizations, bringing together academia, entrepreneurs, innovators, and development stakeholders to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in Somaliland.

Delivering a keynote address, Dr. Fekadu Y. Maru, Dean of the College of Business, Economics and Statistics at the University of Hargeisa, underscored the vital role universities play in transforming entrepreneurship education and inspiring young people to become innovators and job creators. He highlighted that the University of Hargeisa has revised its Entrepreneurship curriculum to make it more practical and innovation-driven, equipping students with entrepreneurial competencies, fostering innovative business ideas, and preparing them to establish sustainable enterprises.

The forum featured engaging panel discussions on “Startup Development and Support Beyond Donors,” focusing on strengthening innovation, promoting business growth, and enhancing the role of higher education institutions within Somaliland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Participants also explored strategies for building sustainable startup support systems and fostering stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and the private sector.

The event further included business exhibition booths and startup showcases, providing entrepreneurs and emerging businesses with a platform to present their products, services, and innovative solutions while creating valuable networking opportunities with potential partners and investors.
