Orientation and Awareness Ceremony for the New Students Joining the University of Hargeisa for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

A large welcoming and orientation ceremony was organized for the new students joining the University of Hargeisa for the 2025/2026 academic year. The well-coordinated event was attended by the university’s top management, office directors, deans of various faculties, lecturers, parents, and over 2,000 newly admitted students. The ceremony took place at the University Graduation Courtyard, and several key topics were discussed, including the following:

Maintaining Good Conduct:
The Director of Student Affairs, Sheikh Omar Badde, delivered an advisory message emphasizing the importance of upholding good morals and discipline. He reminded students that a University of Hargeisa student should always be known for good character and behavior.

Registration and Examination Results System:
The University Registrar, Mr. Mustafe Suudi, provided students with detailed guidance on how to successfully begin and complete their academic journey. He explained that each student must register every semester and will be issued a unique ID card. He also urged students to stay connected to the university’s Student Portal (UMS) to monitor their attendance, exam results, and other important updates. He assured both students and parents that they can conveniently access grades and results from home.
He concluded by warning students against all forms of cheating, emphasizing that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward academic dishonesty.

University Academic System:
The Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Shirwac, explained the university’s academic structure. He noted that the University of Hargeisa operates on a two-semester system per year and that students must pass at least four courses per semester. He also reminded them that poor academic performance could lead to dismissal from the university, stressing the importance of commitment and excellence.

Financial Matters:
The Director of Finance, Mr. Abdillahi Abdikarim, briefed students on the university’s payment systems and procedures. He explained how tuition fees should be paid and reassured students that the University of Hargeisa remains the most affordable university in the country, committed to providing quality education without imposing financial hardship.

Maintaining Academic Quality and the Student’s Role:
The Director of Quality Assurance, Mr. Abdirashid Gaaxnuug, informed students that they play an active role in the university’s continuous evaluation processes conducted every semester. These assessments help improve service delivery and academic quality. He encouraged students to provide honest feedback during evaluations to support ongoing institutional improvement.

Participation in Extracurricular Activities:
The Director of Communication and Marketing, Mr. Ali Mire, encouraged students to be active participants in extracurricular activities. He highlighted the importance of building skills and showcasing talents beyond academics. He advised students to graduate not only with a degree but also with the skills and confidence to succeed in the job market.

Remarks from the University Leadership:
Senior university officials in attendance included Dr. Abdirashid Ismail Mohamed, Vice President for Administration and Development; Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiiye, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs; and Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Sulub, President of the University of Hargeisa.
