The University of Hargeisa, through its Faculty of Law and Legal Studies, organized an academic forum titled “Human Rights in the Perspective of Islamic Sharia and Western Laws.” The event took place at the IPCS Hall of the university and was attended by lecturers, students of the Faculty of Law, and other distinguished guests interested in human rights and international law.
The keynote presentations were delivered by Dr. Issa Mahmoud Abdilahi, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law and one of the country’s prominent scholars, and Hamda Mahamoud Adam, an alumna of the University of Hargeisa currently working in the legal field. Both speakers provided an in-depth analysis of the topic, exploring the different dimensions of human rights as viewed through Islamic and Western frameworks.
During the session, discussions centered on how Islamic Sharia upholds human dignity and individual rights, contrasted with Western interpretations of freedom, equality, and social justice. Participants also examined the similarities and differences between the two systems, emphasizing the importance of understanding both perspectives to promote intellectual harmony and coexistence.
In conclusion, attendees had the opportunity to engage in open discussions and Q&A sessions with the presenters, which enriched academic interaction and the exchange of ideas on this significant topic.
