The National Research Conference of the University of Hargeisa officially commenced today at the university campus, bringing together a diverse group of participants from government institutions, national universities, non-governmental organizations, researchers, and other distinguished guests.
The conference was opened by Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Sulub, President of the University of Hargeisa, who welcomed all attendees and outlined the objectives of the conference, its main focus areas, and the number of research papers to be presented. He noted that this is the first conference of its kind ever held at the University of Hargeisa, marking a major milestone in advancing academic research and dialogue in Somaliland.
Among the keynote speakers were Hon. Dr. Saad Ali Shire, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees; Hon. Abdillahi Hassan, Minister of Finance; and Hon. Ahmed Yasin Sheikh Ali Ayanle, Minister of Information, who all praised the University’s initiative in organizing the event. They emphasized the importance of hosting such a large-scale academic platform in the nation’s leading university, where 68 research studies conducted across Somaliland are being presented.
The opening ceremony was also attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Saki Bade, Director of the National Electoral Commission and an active researcher on governance and democracy; as well as representatives from the private sector such as Dahabshiil and Telesom Group. Additionally, international organizations including Save the Children, UNDP, OXFAM, and World Vision graced the event, all expressing their commitment to supporting research that contributes to the country’s socio-economic development.
Speakers from various sectors of society commended the University of Hargeisa for organizing this significant conference, which showcases research-driven solutions to national challenges and promotes evidence-based policymaking.


























The two-day conference will feature 30 oral research presentations on the first day and 18 published papers available for review and discussion. The event also includes panel discussions and thematic sessions addressing key national priorities, with the aim of producing actionable recommendations that will benefit the people and government of Somaliland.
