A delegation from the University of Hargeisa, led by the Vice President for Administration and Development, Dr. Abdirashid I. Mohamed, and including Dr. Ahmed Shirwac, Director of Academic Affairs, and Mr. Abdirashid Gahnug, Director of Quality Assurance, successfully participated in the 15th Annual Conference of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) held in Kampala, Uganda, from 8–10 October 2025.

During the conference, the University of Hargeisa officially became a member of the ANIE network — a major milestone that marks significant progress in the university’s international collaboration and engagement.

The delegation held fruitful meetings with prominent university leaders from across Africa, including Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe (Vice Chancellor, Makerere University), Prof. George L. Openjuru (Vice Chancellor, Gulu University), Prof. Bernard Nthambeleni (Vice Chancellor, University of Venda), and Prof. Azwinndini Muronga (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Nelson Mandela University). These meetings focused on strengthening partnerships in research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and institutional development.

The ANIE Conference — which brought together universities from 28 countries worldwide — served as a vital platform for discussing the internationalization of African higher education. Key sub-themes included building sustainable partnerships, developing inclusive policies, leveraging technology to expand educational access, advancing leadership in international collaboration, innovating modern curricula, balancing global academic power, amplifying African scholars’ voices, and funding Africa’s educational future.

The participation of the University of Hargeisa underscores its active role in promoting collaboration, innovation, and the advancement of higher education across the African continent.
