The Vice President of the University of Hargeisa for Academic and Research, Dr. Fuad Abdi Obsiye, led a delegation of researchers who participated in the International Conference on Data Science for Sustainable Development, hosted by Amoud University which concluded today. The conference focused on how data science can serve as a critical tool for measuring and advancing sustainable development.
During the conference, Dr. Obsiye took part in a high-level panel discussion on how universities, governments, and development partners can collaborate in utilizing data as a measurement tool for sustainable development. In his remarks, he underscored the urgent need to modernize academic curricula and strengthen partnerships between academia and industry to build a data-literate workforce equipped for the digital economy. Dr. Obsiye also highlighted the strategic role of the HAB Consortium, a collaborative network linking the University of Hargeisa, Amoud University, and Buroa University, in advancing data science education across Somaliland. This partnership is vital for developing technological infrastructure and supporting evidence-based policymaking that promotes national growth.
This participation reaffirmed the University of Hargeisaโs commitment to leadership through collaboration and its determination to position Somaliland at the forefront of innovation, research, and sustainable development in the Horn of Africa.
